The Deadline to Respond to Income-Tax notice under e-assessment has been extended till 10th January

The deadline for filing a response to an income-tax department notice under the e-assessment system was extended up to 10th January 2020, the Central Board of Direct Taxes stated in an order issued by them recently.

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) stated that with a view towards providing relief to the taxpayers as well as tax professionals and to simplify the compliance relating to e-assessment proceedings under e-assessment scheme, 2019, the deadline for filing of response to notices under section 142(1) of the Income-Tax Act issued up to 24th December 2019 by means of the National e-Assessment Centre is extended up to 10th January, 2020 or time given in such notices, whichever is later.

The CBDT had framed policy for the Income-Tax department. The E-assessment of income tax proceedings has been launched by the government on 8th October.

A person or a taxpayer shall not be required to appear either personally or through authorized representative before an income-tax authority with regard to any proceeding under the e-assessment scheme that involves reply towards a notice issued by the taxman.

A national e-assessment centre together with some regional e-assessment centres has been made under the Income-Tax department according to the scheme.
