Linking PAN-Aadhar by 31st December is mandatory for ex-pats

A public notice was issued where it had asked to link an Indian resident's PAN with his or her Aadhaar card before 31st December 2019. In case an individual had failed to link it by the specified time then that person’s PAN card shall be treated as inoperative.

A non-resident Indian (NRI) is not required to have an Aadhar card or a PAN (Permanent Account Number), but it is mandatory to link PAN with Aadhar by 31st December 2019, in case they have it. The previous deadline for the lining Pan with Aadhar was 30th September which later has been extended to 31st December.

This part of the information is vital for Non-Resident Indian’s who has a taxable income in India or wants to make investments in the nation. Therefore the NRIs with financial dealings in India are required to have both a PAN card as well as an Aadhaar.

In the meantime, a statement published by the Ministry of Electronics and IT had stated that over 1.25 billion residents of India are making use of the Aadhaar cards.

Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) had made an announcement that a new milestone has been achieved by the Aadhaar project, which had crossed the 125 crore mark. This implies that over 1.25 billion residents of India have the 12-digit unique identity,  a press release made by the Ministry of Electronics and IT had stated.

According to Indian government rules, a PAN card is mandatory for Non-Resident Indian’s if they have a taxable income in India or if the Non-Resident Indian’s wants to make investments in the nation.
