Inter Caste Marriage Scheme

An Inter caste marriage is a marriage where one of the spouses belongs towards the Scheduled Caste and the other spouse belongs to a Non-Scheduled Caste.

Inter caste Marriage with all schemes

As per the Centrally Sponsored Scheme for execution of the Protection of Civil Rights Act (PCR) and Prevention of Atrocities (POA) Act, central support towards State Governments and Union Territory Administrations is provided towards incentive for inter-caste marriages where one of the spouses belongs from the Scheduled Caste.

Inter Caste Marriage Scheme:

  • The Scheme is known as ‘Dr. Ambedkar Scheme for Social Integration through Inter-Caste Marriages’.

  • The goal of the scheme is to value the socially bold step, of an Inter-caste marriage, taken by the newly married couple and towards extending financial incentive to the couple to allow them to settle down in the initial phase of their married life. It is explained that it must not be construed as a supplementary scheme to an employment generation or poverty alleviation scheme. 

  • It must be the discretion of the Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment and Chairman of Dr Ambedkar Foundation in order to approve the incentive to the couples.

  • Submission of false/ fabricated information towards the competent authority shall be punishable as per law in force.

Benefits of Inter-caste Marriage Scheme

The caste Marriage Scheme is launched by the State Government in the year 2018. The main purpose of Inter-caste Marriage Scheme is to promote the Inter-caste Marriage but if it is done with a Dalit. This scheme is being taken by the union ministry for eliminating the cast bars. The Government has decided to give the reward towards the newly married couple of Rs 2.5 lakh.

Benefits of Inter caste marriage scheme are that it gives financial benefits towards couples who have an inter-caste marriage. The scheme, in addition, helps promote equality as well as tolerance amongst all persons of the community.

Features of the Intercaste Marriage Scheme

  • This scheme is under the Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment and Chairman of Dr Ambedkar Foundation towards endorsing the grant to the couples.

  • Submission or usage of false/fabricated information towards the adequate in-charge would be prosecutable as per the law that is being enforced at the particular time.

  • Various grants incorporated the financial assistance done through the respective government towards the couples through providing a one-time money assistance of Rs.30, 000 to every eligible inter-caste married couple. While accepting the sum, the couples require to consent to an arrangement and submit to LSGI.

  • A grant under this scheme could be used for the said purposes: to start a business; for purchasing land; construction of a house.

  • LSGI would make sure whether the assets are being utilized for the previously mentioned purposes.

Degree of incentive

  • The grant for a lawful caste marriage would be Rs.2.50 lakh per marriage. The eligible couples will get half of the grant as a DD in their joint name and the parity half following 5 years.

  • The Scheme will give a grant to 500 such relational unions in a single year. Physical focus for each state is settled in the extent towards the rate offer of SC populace, as per the Census 2011.

  • About R.s. 25,000, for every marriage, will be discharged towards the District Authorities for giving it to the couple.

Eligibility Criteria

To avail the incentives provided under the ‘Inter-caste Marriage Scheme 2018’, there are certain necessities to be fulfilled by the couple. These are-

  • It must be the first marriage of the couple.

  • The married couple should involve any of them from a Dalit community.

  • The marriage should be registered under the Hindu Marriage Act.

  • The documents required as being prescribed under the scheme must be submitted to the concerned authority.

  • The annual income of a married couple, when both put together, must not be more than 5 Lakhs.

  • There is also a requirement towards submitting the Aadhar numbers with the concerned authority with the details of their joined bank accounts which are linked from their Aadhar numbers.

Documents Required

The required documents are:

  • Ration card.

  • The Salary Certificate of the couples, original is required to be submitted.

  • Inter-caste marriage enlistment endorsement (Marriage authentication) which is a certificate that is issued by Sub Registrar’s office, Panchayat President, a declaration issued from NSS or SND could also be submitted.

  • Caste endorsement of both the spouses.

  • Declaration wedded couple who has been married for a recent year. (It must be received from Gazetted Officer, MLA, and MP of concern territory).

  • Identity proof, which may include Voters ID card and Aadhaar card Copy.

  • Applying for inter-caste marriage scheme.
