GST Annual Return due date for FY 2017-18 to be extended to 31st January 2020

The due date of GST Annual Return  for FY 2017-18 to be extended to 31st January 2020
 

The last date of filing an annual return in Form GSTR-9 and reconciliation statement in Form GSTR-9C for FY 2017-18 has been extended to 31st January, 2020 from 31st December, 2019.
 

In the 38th GST Council Meeting, the GST Council recommended that the last date of filing of GST Annual return has been extended to 31st January, 2020.
 

The Due date of filing GST Returns for the month of November 2019 has also been extended in respect of a few North Eastern States.
 

The Council also approved various law amendments which will be introduced in Budget 2020.
 

Previously, GST taxpayers were required to file required GST Annual returns for FY 2017-18 by 31st December 2019. The notifications relating to the extension of the dates were also been issued.

What is GSTR 9?
 

GSTR 9 is an annual return that is required to be filed yearly by taxpayers who are registered under the Goods and Services Tax (GST). It comprises of details relating to the outward as well as inward supplies made or received under different tax heads.

What is GSTR 9 C?

GSTR-9C is required to be filed by taxpayers whose annual turnover goes beyond Rs 2 crore. It is a statement of reconciliation amid GSTR-9 as well as the audited annual financial statement, whereas GSTR-9A is the annual return which is required to be filed by taxpayers who have chosen for the Composition Scheme under Goods and Services Tax.
