Objectives of Coir Udyami Yojana

The main aim of the Coir Udyami Yojana scheme is as under:

  • Towards modernizing Coir Industry through the adoption of modern technology in the production and processing of coir and coir goods.

  • Towards upgradation the production and processing technology for enhancing the productivity, quality as well as product diversification.

  • Towards increasing the efficiency and productivity for improving the earnings of the workforces engaged in the sector.

  • Towards enhancing the utilization of coconut husk as well as for growing the production of coir fiber and coir goods.

  • Towards generating work in the rural areas of the coco nut-producing States or Union Territories.

  • Towards providing more work opportunities for women in the rural area for gender empowerment.

  • Towards enhancing the socio-economic conditions of the producers as well as workers who are engaged in the industry.

  • Towards contributing to inclusive development of vulnerable sections of beneficiaries particularly those belonging towards Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST) and North Eastern Region (NER).

  • Towards giving enough training to the rural youth of the coconut producing States for attracting them to the fold of coir segment.

  • Towards providing backward/forward linkages to the unitholders to whom help is given under the Coir Udyami Yojana scheme.

Nature of Financial Assistance

  • The pattern of help as per the Coir Udyami Yojana scheme is 40% of the project charge as Government of India subsidy, 55% as loan from Bank as well as 5% as beneficiary contribution.

  • As per the Coir Udyami Yojana Scheme, Marketing Support Assistance towards the beneficiaries for the following interventions shall also be considered.

  • For furnishing financial help for establishing Marketing Consortium of CUY beneficiaries.

  • For repayment of expenses incurred for participation in fairs or exhibitions.

  • For hiring showroom spaces.

  • For repayment of salary of staff employed in the Consortium.

Though, the subsidy would be computed which excludes working capital component.

Eligibility conditions for Coir Udyami Yojana Scheme

  • Any person who is above 18 years of age with Indian Citizenship.

  • There would be no earnings ceiling for assistance for establishing of project under Coir Udyami Yojana

  • Assistance as per the Scheme is only accessible for projects for the production of coir fiber/yarn/products etc. which comes under the coir sector.

  • Assistance under the Scheme would be made accessible to Persons, Corporations, Self Help Groups, Non-Governmental Organizations, and Institutions that are registered under Societies Registration Act 1860, Production Co-operative Societies, Joint Liability Groups and Charitable Trust. Though the units that already had availed Government subsidy under any additional Scheme of Government of India or State Government for a similar purpose are not entitled to claiming subsidy under the scheme.

Procedure for Coir Udyami Yojana Scheme application

The applications could be collected from Coir Board Offices, District Industries Centres, Coir Project Offices, Panchayati Raj Institutions and the Nodal Agencies that are approved through the Board relating to this purpose.

The filled-in application is required to be submitted directly towards the Coir Board Field Offices or through the DICs.

An applicant could also apply for the CUY scheme online through visiting its official website http://coirservices.gov.in/.

The applicant must choose the scheme and click on ‘Apply Online’. Then the applicant would see a login window which requires the applicant’s login details, in case you are a registered user. When you are not registered user the applicant must click on ‘New Login Registration’. After that, the applicant is required to enter his basic details such as full name, mobile number, email ID, Aadhar number, and security question and user name according to the applicant’s preference. Finally, the applicant could click on ‘Confirm’ in order to complete the registration procedure.

Documents Required for Coir Udyami Yojana Scheme

The documents that are required to be attached to the application when filing the application are;

  1. Copy of Title Deed of the property on which the unit is planned to be formed or already situated.

  2. Proof of the coir industry experience.

  3. Proof of training availed from Coir Board.

  4. Machinery planned to be bought along with the invoice.

  5. Industrial Establishment Certificate that is issued by DIC.

  6. Plan and Estimate for construction of work shed that is duly certified through Chartered Engineer.

  7. Project Profile of the recommended project.

  8. For SC/ST, copy of Caste Certificate is required.

  9. Any additional supporting documents.
